179 SWIMMING TESTS
We have booked two dates to Swim Testing this year. Testing is required by all Scouts, Venturers, Leaders and Parents. We have not been able to rent a pool for the past two years and many of our Scouts had their swimming requirements waived due to the Covid Pandemic.
We have rented two time slots at the Costic Center Pool (28600 W 11 Mile Rd Farmington Hills, MI 48336). They are:
- Saturday, April 16, 2022 at 1:00 pm
- Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 1:00 pm
If a person is not able to make one of these dates, they can do their swim test in the lake at Cole Canoe Base either during the Family Canoe Trek on June 4 or Summer Camp on July 3. Most Scouts perfform better in a pool though
As I said this is for all Scouts, Venturers, and Leaders. Each are required every calendar year to take the Swimmers Test to be eligible to participate in water activities with the troop or crew. The test has three levels )all First Class or higher rank must be able to pass the Swimmers test prior to their next rank advancement):
- All Scouts are assumed to be a Non-Swimmer if neither, Beginners or Swimmers test is completed.
- Beginners pass this test: Jump feet first into water over the head in depth, level off, and swim 25 feet on the surface. Stop, turn sharply, resume swimming and return to the starting place.
- Swimmers pass this test: Jump feet first into water over the head in depth. Level off and swim 75 yards in a strong manner using one or more of the following strokes: sidestroke, breaststroke, backstroke trudgen, or crawl; then swim 25 yards using an easy resting elementry backstroke. The 100 yards must be completed in one swim without stops and must include at least one sharp turn. After completing the swim, you must be able to rest by floating.
PARENT HELP NEEDED!
This program works best when we have plenty of adults and older Scouts volunteering to help. Volunteers help Scouts to perfect swimming strokes, take registration each week, and keeps track of who passed which swimming level. Please register to volunteer and let us know what weeks you can help! If you register tto volunteer you can take your Swim test at the same time
