JULY 3 - 9, 2022

The Best Week of the Year

Each year our troop goes to Summer Camp for the most fun and learning a Scout can get. Everything that Scouting promises its members can be found at Summer Camp. Every Scout from the newest member to the seven year veteran should attend Camp!

This year Troop 179 will attend the Edward N. Cole Canoe Base. Cole has the biggest Scout and Venture program in the State of Michigan. While at Cole most Scouts will achieve at least one rank. With more than 70 Merit Badges to choose from there is plenty to do. Merit Badges are not the only requirements we work on though. There is no better place than summer camp to work on Leadership and Scout Spirit requirements.

Don't miss the Best Week of the Year!

July 17 through 23, 2022 Cost: $900.00

The Retriever, a 52′ ketch, is an offshore sail training vessel where youth will learn the fundamentals of sailing, including sail trim, helmsmanship, navigation,  marine safety and skills used by seasoned sailors! Based in its home port of Mackinaw City, Michigan, the Retriever will call on harbors throughout the northern Great Lakes teaching valuable sailing skills along the way. Program options include six (6) day – five (5) night cruises.

The Retriever is designed to accommodate a maximum of 10 youth and two (2) adults. Participants must be at least 13 years of age by September 1st of 2022.

JULY 20 - 27, 2022

Florida Sea Base, located on the Key of Islamorada, has always been a Scouts/Venturers Favorite High Adventure. To attend you must be 14 years of age or completed the 8th Grade. That means anyone in the Eighth Grade this year or older is eligible to attend. We have two GREAT trips to choose from:

The Florida Keys are home to the only coral barrier reef in North America. If you are a certified diver (we will offer certification courses during the early Spring), this program is for you. From our fleet of custom built Newton Dive Specials you will explore coral reefs, discover wrecks, underwater rock formations, and scuba dive alongside the over 6,000 organisms and underwater wildlife found in the Florida National Marine Sanctuary.

During this adventure (weather permitting) you will make as many as 11 dives, including a night dive. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to take part in evening "Dive Against Debris by Goal: Clean Seas, Reef Fish",  Identification and Shark Awareness" courses, and conduct REEF Environmental Education fish surveys. Accommodations are in air conditioned dormitories overlooking the Florida Bay with great meals in the Sea Base galley. The diving equipment supplied for this adventure is new and state of the art. Medical restrictions apply. Call Sea Base see Venture Adviser Connie Knie with questions. Crew size 6-8.
